Guardian Rumour Mill

Gregg Bakowski

There must be something in the water at Crystal Palace. Manager Roy Hodgson, 76, is looking sprightlier than ever as he leads the club forwards in the post-Zaha era and he would like others to experience the restorative effects of life at the Eagles. In fact, he’s keen for Eden Hazard to sample the club’s elixir of life and revive a football career that flatlined the moment he left London for Madrid in 2019. The Belgian is considering retirement after leaving the Bernabéu in the summer but could be tempted back into footballing relevance by the Selhurst Park smelling salts. He’s still only 32 and could help take some of the creative load off Eberechi Eze.

Another player who may make a surprising Premier League comeback is Jonny Evans. The centre-back, who has been training at Manchester United to keep fit while looking for a club, has finally found a suitor: Manchester United! It’s been no secret that he’s made a show of some of the other much more costly United defenders and it seems Erik ten Hag has given the green light for the 35-year-old to be handed a one-year contract at the club. Poor Harry Maguire. Will there now even be room for him in the dugout he calls home?

Ivan Toney is still in demand despite the Brentford striker’s betting ban meaning he can’t play again until mid-January. It says here that Tottenham and Arsenal will join the race to sign the striker this winter but the Bees will slap an £80m price tag on the player in the hope they will leave him be.

There will be a space in Arsenal’s squad should Toney end up at the Emirates with Kieran Tierney being shipped out on loan to Real Sociedad on a season-long loan and Folarin Balogun just a signature away from a move to Monaco after a £38m fee was agreed between the clubs.

Having splashed close to £350m this summer you’d think Chelsea’s spending might be done. Nope. Having got wind of Tottenham’s approach for Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, Todd Boehly has instructed the club’s frazzled accountant to start crunching those numbers again – and the Blues are ready to slap down a £40m bid for the winger. The two clubs are on good terms, with teenage midfielder Andrey Santos having just checked in at the City Ground on loan from Chelsea.

Eric Dier’s days of looking mournful in Tottenham’s backline appear to be over. Ange Postecoglou has left the 29-year-old out of his first two Premier League squads and this hasn’t gone unnoticed at Fulham, who are considering a bid for the defender. Marco Silva wants Atalanta’s forward Duvan Zapata to fill the Aleksandar Mitrovic-shaped hole in his attack, too.

There is hope for Liverpool in their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat. The smooth-as-butter Morocco midfielder was left out of Fiorentina’s squad for their Europa Conference League match against Rapid Vienna, suggesting the Italian club might be willing to let him go after all. But what’s this? Manchester United are set to do battle for the 27-year-old’s signature – and the state of their midfield suggests they may go all in for him.

Everton’s desperation for someone, anyone, who can score some flipping goals has taken them to Italy, where they are in discussions with Udinese over a fee for striker Beto. But the Serie A club’s demand that they match the player’s £30m release clause might leave the cash-strapped Toffees empty-handed.

And Barcelona will sign João Cancelo on a season-long loan from Manchester City in the next few days, while Sheffield United are close to doing a deal with Troyes to sign speedy Guinea-Bissau winger Mama Baldé.

Director responds directly to West Ham interest in player – Hammers yet to make serious move

By Sean Lunt

Sevilla director of football Victor Orta has insisted West Ham United are yet to make a serious move for striker Youssef En-Nesyri, despite reports of renewed interest.

Orta has been speaking at a press conference yesterday announcing new signings Orjen Nyland and Dodi Lukebakio, when the subject of En-Nesyri was brought up according to Diario de Sevilla.

The Moroccan is reportedly a target for West Ham once again, with reports claiming that they’re set to make a third bid for him after efforts over the last few years.

David Moyes needs a striker to replace Gianluca Scamacca and is seemingly a big fan of En-Nesyri, having tried to sign him on two previous occasions but failed as the player did not want to move on.

Reports in Spain have indicated the striker has now changed his mind on that front, with the idea of playing in the Premier League now more alluring than it once was.

That was followed by a claim that West Ham and Sevilla ‘do not stop talking’ about a potential transfer, with the Spanish side happy to sell for the right price.

That report stated West Ham were yet to make an official offer for the player and Orta backs that up, stating “there is no official offer for him to date” when the subject of West Ham’s interest was brought up.

That, then, would suggest nothing is imminent and the Hammers are still weighing up their options before deciding what to do.

There is certainly a deal there to be found if they want it, particularly if En-Nesyri is now open to the move, as Sevilla’s finances are well known, and they could do with the money.

As usual, though, it is presumably all about the money and it seems West Ham are yet to put any on the table to tempt their Spanish counterparts.

West Ham could rival Tottenham, Lille for free-scoring Nigerian striker

The 21-year-old has been fantastic in the last six months, and he has attracted a lot of attention

English Premier League club West Ham could rival Tottenham and Lille in the race to sign Nigerian striker Gift Orban from Gent this summer, Soccernet reports.

Orban has been superb for Gent since his transfer from Norwegian lower-league club Stabaek in January. The Nigerian attacker has registered 26 goals and two assists in 28 appearances for the former Belgian champions.

The 21-year-old striker has often iterated his desire to play in the Premier League, and he has already attracted keen interest from two London-based sides.

Tottenham have been in talks with Gent for Orban, but both sides are yet to agree on a price as Gent are demanding a fee in the region of €30-40million, but Spurs are unwilling to match that.

Fulham and Lille have also been touted as potential destinations, but nothing concrete has come out of those talks yet.

However, the three clubs may have company soon as West Ham Central reports that West Ham could turn their sights to Gent star Orban.

The club lost Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta this summer, and they are searching for a replacement. Their major target is Sevilla star Youssef En-Nesyri, but the Laliga side are unwilling to let the Morocco striker leave.

Unfortunately for West Ham, Orban’s price tag could be problematic for them. With just over a week left in the transfer market, the Hammers would have to move quick if they want to snap up Orban this summer.

West Ham Technical Director Wants Mohammed Kudus To Fly To London With Him

West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten is in Bulgaria finalising a deal for Mohammed Kudus and wants the player to fly with him to London, according to Sky Sports News.

The Hammers are keen on an attacking midfielder and they have set Ajax’s Kudus as one of their priority targets.

Ajax rejected West Ham’s first two bids for the midfielder as they failed to meet their expectations.
West Ham have submitted a new bid worth €44m including add-ons and 10 per cent of any future sale of Kudus.

It has been suggested that the Hammers are closing in on agreeing a deal with Ajax for the midfielder.
Steidten is in Bulgaria finalising the deal for Kudus and wants the midfielder to fly with him to London once they have agreed on a deal.

Kudus is keen to make the move to the London Stadium this summer and West Ham are working to land him.
And if all goes well, he will become the third midfield signing for the Hammers this summer.

Defender’s agents in London today amid Crystal Palace and West Ham interest – ‘Very interested’ in deal

By Sean Lunt

Ivan Fresneda’s agents are in London today for meetings regarding his future, with Crystal Palace and West Ham United ‘very interested’ in the defender.

That’s according to AS, who cover the situation around the highly rated youngster today as he continues to be linked with a move away from Real Valladolid.

Fresneda is one of the hottest rated prospects in Europe and has been linked with numerous clubs for the best part of the year as he eyes the next step in his career.

Various clubs, including some of the biggest in Europe, have explored the possibility of a deal but nothing has become concrete at this moment in time.

AS say his agents are working to change that, though, and relay information from Radio Marca that Crystal Palace and West Ham are ‘very interested’ in the defender this summer.

They then add their own information to the mix, reporting that they have learned there will be a new meeting in London today between the relevant parties.

According to the newspaper, the player’s agents are holding ‘a round of meetings’ ahead of the final stretch of the transfer window before assessing their options.

They were left disappointed that the chance to join Barcelona has fallen through but that has ‘hastened’ the need to find another destination and that could be either Crystal Palace or West Ham if their meetings go well today.

Irons linked with PSV star

The Iron’s foray into the transfer market is showing no signs of stopping, as we are now being linked with the PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare.

Initially he was odds on to go to Nottingham Forest on loan with an option to buy for £22m, but he appears to have changed his mind.

Incidentally, we seem to be seeing more and more of these sort of deals . For any Millwall supporters reading this:

The offer of a loan-to-buy deal is a strategic manoeuvre that adds complexity to the transfer discussions. Typically as a ploy to secure a players services whilst balancing financial considerations.

With PSV appearing to be happy to let him go, as they have already lined up a couple of replacements, this could be a good piece of business as we go about reinforcing our mid field.

The Ivorian defensive midfielder’s prowess and potential impact on the field has garnered plenty of attention , and we seem to be in pole position to acquire him,
